The pre-1990 ceremony moves sequentially through LDS scripture: the Old and New Testaments are named in connection with the law of sacrifice, the Book of Mormon is named in connection with the law of the gospel, and Doctrine and Covenants is named in connection with the law of consecration. The 1990 revision abandons this sequence, referring to the scriptures generically, not by specific standard works (except in the case of the law of consecration, where Doctrine and Covenants is still specifically named).
